Golden Highlights: Jordan Rookie Record & Kelce Super Bowl Jersey

The atmosphere at Goldin’s August Elite Auction was charged with excitement as high-end modern sports cards and memorabilia ignited a frenzy of bidding wars. The star of the show was undoubtedly the PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan rookie card, which shattered expectations by fetching an astonishing $244,000, setting a new record for its grade.

Not to be outdone, a PSA 7 Jordan Star Company rookie card recently sold for $62,000 on eBay, showcasing the growing momentum in the market for Jordan’s iconic first NBA licensed trading card. Following suit, a PSA 6.5 version of the card commanded a respectable $52,460, proving the enduring appeal of Jordan’s memorabilia.

In a surprising twist, a 1-of-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card featuring MLB sensation Mike Trout, graded PSA 9, drew in an impressive $192,030, underscoring Trout’s enduring popularity despite his recent injury setbacks.

The baseball card fervor continued with two more outstanding sales: a 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper #5/5, graded PSA 9, sold for an eye-catching $184,720, while a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts #3/5, graded PSA 10, garnered a substantial $123,220, setting new records for both players.

The allure of 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards also captivated bidders, with the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 fetching an impressive $116,534, and a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 selling for a noteworthy $68,527, establishing record prices for these players.

A standout moment came with the sale of a dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from 2023-24 Topps UEFA, which fetched a remarkable $67,100 post-PSA 9 grading. The card, originally pulled by a breaker in England, found its way to Goldin’s stage at the London Card Show, captivating soccer and sports card enthusiasts alike.

Turning to memorabilia, the spotlight shone on Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, photomatched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ unfortunate 31-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, commanding a commanding $52,460. Additionally, Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season found a new owner for $34,404.

Further notable memorabilia sales included an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, photomatched to one of his remarkable 52 home runs, which saw an impressive $51,240 sale.

Rounding out the top sales from the auction were some stellar pieces:

– 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA #77/99: $95,770

– 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani #22/75 PSA 9: $74,450

– 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey, photomatched to eight trading cards: $51,240

– 1969 Topps Football Series 1 wax box: $32,940

– 1969 Topps Football Series 2 wax box: $31,721
